The flight was said to have operated normally, before attempting to land in rainy conditions and fog when it crashed, erupting in flames. No known survivors - a crash that claimed the lives of 152 people - including 6 crew and 146 passengers.

Was just piling more food scraps into my green bin and thinking about a report I read about airlines and recycling. And ultimately, how little the airlines recycle overall.

Here on the ground, recycling and composting have increased over the years as pollution and the environment have grown in concern, but in the air it seems another story.

I thought back to a report I read recently, and a feature I wrote to sum up the main points of it and it seems airlines have a long way to go in cleaning and green-ing up their act.

Airfare Watchdog found a great airfare deal with flexible travel dates for the Detroit / San Jose, California route.

They were able to find a roundtrip airfare - including taxes - for $168. Flights were on Continental Airlines and require a minimum 7 day advance purchase.
