Since no vacation would be complete without that
little something you take home to remember your trip by, be
assured that there are plenty of shopping opportunities in
Cancún.
Also known as Cancún City, the
downtown area or Centro is a nine-block square connected to
the island by a causeway.
The commercial heart of Cancún, is
where you'll find lots of restaurants and some nice little
shops, particularly along Yaxchilan Avenue. Flea market
aficionados might want to visit the Mercados on Tulum Avenue,
the main street, where silver items and handicrafts brought in
from all of Mexico are plentiful.
In the Hotel Zone, Plaza la Fiesta offers similar
crafts in a department-store-like atmosphere. El Zocalo, right
across from the Convention Center is a bazaar for handicrafts
where you can also see a multi-media show with exhibits of the
history of Mexican clothing, fashion shows, and a nightly
fiesta. Numerous malls are located along Paseo Kukulkan.
Credit cards are accepted in most stores, in addition to
travelers checks.
